Application

Applicants with bachelor's degrees from an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning, or a fully equivalent degree from a foreign institution, may be considered for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Program subject to the following qualifications:

  1. That the standards of the degree in question are equivalent in both the distribution of academic subject matter and in scholarship achievement requirements to those maintained at the University of Hawaii.
  2. That the applicant's record of scholarship is sufficiently distinguished.
  3. That he/she can be accommodated.*

*Note: Applicants are cautioned that if their intended area of studies does not fall within the expertise of the faculty, admission may be denied.


Application.Students applying for admission must submit the following:

    To the Graduate Division:
    1. An application form.
    2. A complete set of transcripts from each institution attended.
    3. If the applicant is a graduate of a foreign university where English is not the usual means of communication, the results of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). (Please refer to the Graduate Information Bulletin for details).
    4. Application fee $50.00.

    To the Department of Electrical Engineering:

    1. For Ph.D. applicants only: three recommendation letters and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.
    2. For M.S. applicants: three recommendation letters are needed
    3. Statement of Purpose

    The above items should be submitted by March 1 for fall semester, and September 1 for spring semester. Deadlines for foreign applicants are January 15 for fall semester, and August 1 for spring semester.

Foreign applicants should plan to take the TOEFL no later than December for fall admission and June for spring admission. A TOEFL application form and Information Bulletin with exact dates, locations, fees, etc., are available at U.S. embassies, U.S. educational commissions and foundations abroad, IIE, or write to:

Completed TOEFL registration forms must be at Educational Testing Service at least one month prior to the date of the examination. Ph.D. applicants should plan to take the GRE no later than January for the fall semester and June for the spring semester. A GRE Information Bulletin with exact dates, locations, fees, etc., is available at the Counseling Testing Center, University of Hawaii at Manoa, for pick up by local residents, or write to:
