BS-CENG and BS-EE programs renew accreditation by ABET

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is proud to announce that its Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering and its Bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering have both again been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Both the BS Computer Engineering program and the BS Electrical Engineering program were accredited for the full maximum of six years.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

College of Engineering Dean Brennon Morioka said “This is a clear indication of the confidence ABET has in the hard work by our faculty and staff in providing the kind of educational experience and development of professional skills our students will need to be productive and highly skilled engineers and leaders upon graduation.”

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,361 programs at 850 colleges and universities in 41 countries and areas.
