Date:  Wed, April 30, 2014
Time:  2:30pm
Location:  MSB100
Speaker:  Prof. Shigeo Kawasaki, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

Abstract: In this presentation, the Wireless Green-Eco Technology of the Wireless Power Transfer and Energy Harvesting is introduced. Applicable microwave technologies and its demonstration are shown. In addition, some developing applications of microwave power transfer will be covered, such as wireless sensor network in a spacecraft.

Bio: Dr. Shigeo Kawasaki received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Waseda University in 1979 and 1981 respectively, and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1993. In 1994, he joined the Tokai University, Japan. He was the invited visiting Scholar at UCLA in 1997 and the invited visiting Professor at California Institute of Technology in 1999, respectively. In the fall of 2004, he was the Adjunct Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the Visiting Professor in the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere, Kyoto University, Japan. In 2008, he joined, as Professor, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). His research activities include microwave and millimeter-wave wide-band gap power devices and circuits, RF-MEMS, active integrated antennas, nonlinear active device modeling, PA/LNA MMICs, active phased array antennas and the wireless energy transfer technology. He has published more than 400 articles and papers, and holds several patents.
