 Abstract

Emerging media platforms play a key role in the development of future technologies and provide us with many opportunities for innovation. Building such platforms requires taking into account social interactions that are not found in traditional software. Successful communication and collaborations within these virtual environments aim to deliver the desired social experiences to both user and client, while limiting undesirable experiences. Disruptive behaviors such as online deception pose new questions relating to design. This talk highlights some of the opportunities associated with online deception detection/prevention and the building of media platforms and new collaborative environments. Future and broader implications of such work as well as social computing on emerging media are further discussed.

Biography

Michael Tsikerdekis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky and a founding faculty member of the undergraduate and graduate Information Communication Technology (ICT) program. A native of Greece, he received his Ph.D. degree in Informatics (Computer Science) from Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. Michail has authored several publications in mainstream computer science and information science venues including CACM, IEEE TIFS, JASIST. His work is situated between the fields of Human–Computer Interaction and Social Computing, while his research interests revolve around emerging media design and development, social engineering, data mining and collaboration technologies.
