The Internet of Things (IoT) revolution is already well underway, with the current 10 billion connected devices forecast to grow to between 50 and 100 billion units by the year 2020. However, due to a critical lack of application layer standards, the IoT is emerging as a highly fragmented landscape of walled gardens, isolated connected devices and proprietary infrastructure. In this talk, Dr. Darren Carlson presents an overview of his pioneering research into seamlessly bridging the growing cyber-physical gap between IoT ecosystems through plug-and-play context-awareness, adaptive edge computing and crowd-sensing at scale--establishing "personalized smart-spaces" that move with users. These approaches enable the creation of unique, on-demand digital experiences that operate seamlessly across diverse IoT environments.
