At Starwood, doing the right thing for the environment and our communities is more important than ever. Our customers and owners are asking for it, our guests expect it, and our associates are passionate about it. Global Citizenship is a key driver to our success at Starwood. Therefore, we’ve created a Starwood corporate initiative called “30/20 by20” which means to reduce energy by 30% and water by 20% by 2020, for all of our Starwood properties worldwide. The Hawaii region is on track to meeting this important, yet very lofty initiative, as we’ve implemented a variety of projects from basic operational behavior changes, to HVAC condenser water pool heating. Furthermore, we have a great outlook of future energy efficiency projects, which include, cogeneration, rainwater harvesting, photo voltaic, etc that will take us well pass our 30/20 by 20 goals.
