Date:  Wed, February 17, 2016
Time:  6:30PM to 8PM
Location:  i-Lab (Building 37)
Speaker:  Victor Velasco, Senior Project Engineer, Honolulu Seawater Air Conditioning

Sponsored by University of Hawaii IEEE Student Branch and IEEE Hawaii Section:

Honolulu Seawater Air Conditioning (HSWAC) has been developing a Seawater Air Conditioning (SWAC) system to provide downtown Honolulu with 28,000 tons of cooling capacity. Using deep seawater from the Pacific Ocean as a natural heat sink, significant amounts of electricity and potable water will be conserved and fuel oil, emissions, refrigerant and chemical usage will be greatly reduced. This brief will provide information on the current status of the project, the benefits of renewably/sustainably generated chilled water, and a discussion of the challenges this project has been facing.
