Cyber-Assurance for the Internet of Things – Chaotic Reality

  Add to Google Calendar
Date:  Wed, November 16, 2016
Time:  6:30pm - 8:00pm
Location:  i-Lab (Building 37)
Speaker:  Prof. Tyson Brooks, Ph.D., IEEE Senior Member, Adjunct Facility- School of Information Studies, Syracuse University

The Internet of Things (IoT) will create a large network of billions of smart 'Things' communicating with each other. In the IoT, smart things are expected to become active participants in business, information and social processes. The IoT will be able to interact and communicate by exchanging data and information sensed about the environment and by reacting autonomously to the real/physical events with or without direct human intervention. IoT networks will become popular because they can be deployed quickly with very little equipment or infrastructures. These networks also lend themselves well to environments with populations of transient users. The possible applications of the IoT are almost limitless and organizations throughout the world have been quick to realize its potential. The IoT has the purpose of providing an information technology (IT) infrastructure facilitating the exchanges of ‘Things’ in a secure and reliable manner; however, there will be security implications for using this new technology. This session will discuss the anatomy of the IoT
environment, its security concerns and its use within the home, business and our everyday lives.
