The future of Clinical Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine

In this talk, I will discuss the current applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in clinical studies and touch base recent regulatory issues for patient data collection and handling. I will overview our current activities within the domains of medical Gastroenterology, Neurology, Endocrinology and Gynaecology. Then I will overview limits of current machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms in handling patient data, and discuss that in some scenarios, expected performances might be hard to achieve. Based on the aforementioned facts, I will speculate about the future of machine learning and artificial intelligence in medicine.
Bio
Dr. Esmaeil Nadimi received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2008. He then joined University of Southern Denmark and later visited the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), Harvard University for a period of one year working at the Wireless Communication and Signal Processing Lab. In 2014, he established the group of statistical signal processing and machine learning at the University of Southern Denmark, where he is currently a professor of signal processing and the leader of the team of machine learning. He is affiliated with several research organizations including the Centre for Innovative Medicine, SDU e-Science centre and the centre of excellence on advanced colorectal diseases. He is an IEEE senior member and the recipient of several awards and grants.
