At the Spring Undergraduate Showcase, sponsored by University Research Opportunities Program (UROP), Matthew Siegel and Matsu Thornton won first place for their oral presentation "Developing Residential Direct Load Control for Residential Water Heater Demand Response" in the engineering and computer sciences category.

Honorable mention in that same category went to Kalani Danas Rivera (ME), Eliesse Hihara (EE), Austin Morishita (ME), Reyn Mukai (CENG), and Keola Wong (ME) (representing a team of 22 undergraduates in CENG, EE, and ME) for their oral presentation "Design of an Autonomous Unmanned Aerial System for Search-and-Rescue Missions"
