David Yun received his B.S. in Mathematics at Ohio State University in 1970 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from M.I.T. in 1973.
From 1973 to 1983 he served as a research staff member and then Manager of Symbolic Computation Group at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. In 1983, he served as Professor and Chairman of Computer Science and Engineering Department at SMU in Dallas. He came to Hawaii in 1989 to serve as Director of the Information Technology Division at the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering the College of Engineering at University of Hawaii (and became full-time in 1992). In 1999 he began serving on the Executive Committee for the Center for Chinese Studies at UH. He continues to serve on the Governing Board for the Knowledge Systems Institute in Chicago (since 1986) and the China International Medical University in Los Angeles (since 1995).
His research interests lie in advanced computing and communication; bio-medical engineering; intelligent system; 3D imaging and modeling; resource management; tele-health systems and remote telemedicine delivery.
